Nature’s Best Isopure Zero Carb is an enticing whey protein powder. As the name suggests, the biggest draw is its lean formulation, including no carbs whatsoever. If you’re serious about packing on some lean muscle without fighting your carb intake at the same time, this powder is worthy of your attention.
We’re going to take a look at this supplement and tell you what it has to offer. Can it deliver on its considerable promise of being a lean, mean protein powder that delivers the essentials without any of the padding? Let’s find out.
Ingredients Breakdown
Two scoopfuls of the powder give you a serving size of 62g, on which the numbers that follow are based.
First, you get 50g of protein per serving, which means 80% of the serving is pure protein. That’s quite efficient and about on par with what you would expect to get in this price range. The protein you are getting is pure ion exchange whey protein isolate.
Now, the ion exchange processing method produces a very high protein, low carb result. Unfortunately it also causes the loss of many of the beneficial subfractions present in whey. In other words, you get a high quantity of protein, but a sort of stripped down protein. We’ll see if this has an effect on the results people get with this powder.
Isopure Zero Carb contains a ton of vitamins and minerals. The vitamins include A, B6, B12, C, E, K, while the minerals present include calcium, iron, phosphorous, chromium, zinc and a number of others. This is almost like a vitamin supplement and whey protein powder rolled into one.
For additional muscle support you get the branch chain amino acids isoleucine, leucine, valine and l-glutamine. The total calories from a serving are 210, and the product contains no sugar or carbohydrates. Unfortunately they use the artificial sweetener sucralose.
Mixing and Drinking
The powder mixes fairly well. You’ll want to at least use a shaker though, and it may take about 15 – 20 seconds of shaking to get rid of all the lumps and properly blend the powder. There are 10 different flavors in the range, but we’d suggest you go for something safe like vanilla first just to get an idea of the taste and texture of the powder.
Taste is too subjective to expand on too much, and in our book it is always secondary to the actual results and value you get from the powder. As it is, this is not a bad tasting protein supplement and some people find flavors like the banana cream and mint chocolate chip particularly good. It is quite sweet though.
Economy
Using the full two scoop (50g of protein) serving gives you 22 servings per 3 pound container. At around $48 per container that works out to over $2 per serving. So, this is not the most economical powder around, but you do get the zero carb formulation with a high protein load for your money.
Of course, if you don’t need 50g of protein at a time you can only use one scoop. How much you use will depend on your needs.
Reviews from Other Buyers

Here are some comments from just a few of the reviews we found:
“Over the years, I have tried a lot of protein powders with content derived from whey, casein, soy. I will have to say that this is the best tasting one that I have encountered. That coupled with the fact that I am now working through a low-carb life-style and I want some options other than eggs & bacon all of the time( not that there is anything wrong with that), this product fits the bill.” Calvin Hewitt, Amazon.com
“This product has been, by far, the best no-carb protein mix for me. It costs twice what the cheap whey proteins cost but I don’t mind paying the price when I’ve seen much better results, taste and ease of use with the Isopure.” M. Hernandez, Amazon.com
“If you can find a decent flavor at a decent price or if you could care less about flavor or price, this is one of the highest quality, affordable protein powders on the market. This product is ideal for those on CKD/low carb diets, or those trying to stay away from dairy products.” FlashSunday, Certified Expert Reviewer, Supplementreviews.com
Cautions
As mentioned before, the ion exchange processing method is not ideal as it strips some of the good stuff out of the whey protein. What you do get is a very clean, pure whey, but perhaps not as effective as micro-filtered isolates. It is also a little disappointing to see chemical artificial sweeteners in a product in this price range instead of something natural like Stevia.
